How to start supporting your fertility at home? Sounds straightforward, doesn’t it? You don’t need an appointment for that. You just need a little time. Maybe a yoga mat. And yet, anyone who has tried to build a consistent fertility wellness routine at home knows how surprisingly difficult it can be to maintain.
The reasons are familiar. The house is busy. The to-do list is loud. The fertility routine itself can feel heavy. All of these can make even the simplest self-care feel hard to reach. There is also something uniquely challenging about practising on your own, without the structure of a class or the accountability of others around you. It is easy to keep putting it off until there is never quite a right moment.
If you have tried and struggled to keep up a home routine, I am with you.
But there are small, practical things that can help.
Create a dedicated space. It does not need to be large but it needs to be easy. What matters is that the space feels approachable, not like a chore to set up. A calm, uncluttered environment also tends to settle the mind, which is a big thing when your nervous system is already carrying the stress of a fertility journey.
Choose a time and protect it. Mornings work well for many people as the day has not yet taken over. Practising on an empty stomach is also better. But the right time is simply the one you can realistically keep. A routine is build by consistency. The same slot each day becomes something that belongs to you regardless of what the cycle brings.
Start small. Ten minutes of breathing and gentle movement every day will do more for your body and mind than an hour-long session once a week. Begin with what fits easily into your life. As you begin to feel the difference it makes, you will naturally want to give it more space. And on the days when you are depleted or disheartened, a small practice is always easier to show up for. And it’s still invaluable.
